
Alcohol
The use of alcohol is on the rise. Considered by many to be ok because it is legal and not seen by many as a drug as well as seeing parents drinking has given many the attitude that it is not as dangerous as the other illegal drugs but is seen as a beverage.
Alcohol has an impact on many through alcohol – related automobile accidents, domestic violence, and missing of work and school.
The person becoming dependent on alcohol will require more and more to achieve the same result. They will also often undergo a personality change when drinking, often described as “Jekyll and Hyde”.
A description of dependency is “The inability to stop drinking, or cut down on drinking, despite negative consequences (loss of job or loved ones, arrest, DUIs)
Withdrawal from alcohol can be dangerous, sometimes involving DT’s (Delirium Tremors), seizures, even coma and death. They may be shaky, sweating, and flushed.
